Ex-Sox Catcher At Center Of Controversial Call

anyone knows whether that third strike was caught cleanly or not, it's Josh Paul.

CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports, Paul called his family in the northwest suburbs after the game and told his dad the home plate umpire didn’t have a clear view of that ball.

"Oh yeah, he stabbed it, he caught it. He said if he hadn't caught it, he would have reached out and tagged AJ on the butt," said Josh’s father, Bill Paul.

Bill Paul describes his son, Josh, as a savvy player who's thinking all the time. And he's proud of the way Josh played last night's game.

Josh Paul grew up playing little league and rooting for the White Sox in northwest suburban Buffalo Grove. His dream came true in 1996 when he was drafted out of Vanderbilt by the White Sox. He even played for the Cubs one year.

The Pauls are still close friends with the hero of the game, Joe Crede.

"I'm glad he got a double, wish it had been in the tenth inning, then they wouldn't have scored a run," Bill Paul said.

Bill Paul says he's emotionally torn, watching his first-born son battle against the first team in his heart.

But he's looking out for the future of little Jacob, Josh's 1-year-old son.

"He needs a little money for college, Josh does, so it'd be helpful to get into the playoffs. But on the other hand, the poor White Sox, 88 years! I'm rooting for that."
