Stay-At-Home Mom Goes on Strike By The Associated Press
1 hour, 22 minutes ago

FRANKFORT, Ind. - A stay-at-home mom is on strike — giving up her daily chores until her family gives her more help around the house.

Regina Stevenson, 41, sat on a lawn chair Tuesday on the sidewalk outside her home in Frankfort, 20 miles southeast of Lafayette, with a sign saying "Mom on Strike."

Stevenson has four children, ranging in age from 7 to 19. The youngest three live at home with her and her husband, Dennis, along with their daughter-in-law and grandson.

Stevenson says the large household means doing a lot of laundry, cooking, cleaning and gardening.

"I do everything except bring home the paycheck," she said, crediting her husband for that contribution.

Stevenson said her children are good kids and that her husband keeps odd hours and can't always pitch in.

But she said she wants more help around the house and that she won't be cleaning, cooking or doing other chores until they clean and learn to appreciate her.

"(Stay-at-home moms) are not paid with money, and I think that you should show a little courtesy and respect for what we do," she said.

So this chick is hurting her family to prove a point? Those poor kids. I know being a stay-at-home mom is hard, butholy geez batman, no need to strike. Just don't give up the ass to the hubby until he helps. That's how women have done it for decades! Get with the program lady! ARGGh!!!!

hehe.. why yes I did  I've never gone that far, but I tell Brock that unless HE puts his clothes in the hamper himself, that I'm not doin his laundry! as far as the kids, I let the oldest keep watch on the clock, he knows what time to get dressed, leave for the buss, and when it's time to pick up before bed... I think alot of people around here don't fully appreciate me.. it sucks, but you deal with it.. bottom line, It'd take ALOT for me to halt everything and sit in a chair all day...

man, i never had so much respect for stay at home moms as i do since i had a child.

when i was younger, i always thought that all my friends' moms who stayed at home were so lucky! they didn't have to work, they could sleep in, they got to watch their soaps....

WELL, that is SOOOOOO not the case! stay at home mom's bust their asses and they get no benefits at all. they get no pay, no sick days, nothin! granted, they get to be with their kids all day and spend time with them that working mothers do not.... but until you spend a day in their shoes, you better watch what you say. their job is DEMANDING and the pay AND the respect is nonexistant.... they work when they are tired, sick, you name it. they have no choice. they work LONG hours, and they don't have a check comin in every week or two.... i would even go as far as to say that stay at home moms have one of the hardest jobs there is.

just something to think about..... i know i could never do it.

well said ashley. I don't even have kids and I know this. I can't believe that some people think stay at home mom's have it easy, especially when the kids are young.

Go Moms! :)

ya know, I used to think the same thing... ahh... those were the days... :D

and yeah, it's tough.. but ya get thru it... heck, I've been counting the days till august of 2009 rolls around! (that's the year ALL my kids will be in school) by then, I'll have one kid in EVERY grade of elementary school except 1st and 4th!... it's hard cause the kids are all about 19 months apart, but at least they're not all teenagers YET  yikes! I can really wait till that happens... :s

I took care of some ho-bags kid for over a year, from the time he was 2 weeks old until the time he was about 18 months old, and I must say, it wasn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be... almost rewarding, even.

That said, I'd never take care of someone else's kid ever again... fuck that.

Staying at home and being a fucking child and acting like a goofball and having a good time with a kid is rediculously easy, and requires next to NO FUCKING SKILLS... granted, this was a good kid--still hardly a problem.

^if only all I had to do was sit here and act like a goofball...

anyone who's thinking bout havin kids is more than welcome to come spend a few hours here... I'd offer the whole day, but that even sends their own dad into convulsions

^maybe she wants some help around the house, and a lil appreciation!

I completely understand how she feels... I'm a stay at home mom... and might I add, I only know one other mother that is... not that common anymore...

yeah but why feel the need to display that need in public like that....its like if she needed that much help im sure she could've gone about it in a different manor like ppl that actually drove by really gave a hoot why she's sitting outside..

she should've given her husband head. He would have helped her with anything then.

were you also doing laundry for the entire household, cleaning, fixing all meals, etc? perhaps it doesn't take "skills," but it takes time, patience, and energy. and a lot of moms that do all of that during the day are also up several tims in the night too. def not an easy job in my book...

exactly! I usually get up at 6am, and don't go to bed till 1am or so... it's always been hard for me to fall asleep, so I usually don't drift off till 1:30-2...

almost no sleep, and I still manage to keep everyone in clean clothes and food on the table!

Actually it does take skills. When you are taking care of children you are acting as a parent and parenting takes skills. If it didnt take skills then their wouldnt be some many fucked up kids.

With that said, I would love to be a stay at home dad. It's not that I am lazy or dont want to work, it is just that I hate being stuck 8 hours + a day somewhere that I dont want to be. If I was a stay at home dad I would still generate income by growing my Ebay business and other business ventures. Hopefully, one day that will happen.

AHAHAHA! well, it's never too late to learn! I suggest starting him off w/ something simple... perhaps a recipe from "A man, a can, a plan".. less than 3 ingredients, nothin too complicated!

ashley
10-21-2005, 01:56 PM
well, randy has actually made a FEW things, but i think he's afraid to learn too much cuz then i'll expect him to cook more.

oh yeah, and when he DOES cook, he comes and asks me every 2 minutes if it's done yet, how will he know if it's done, does it look right, how much of this should he put in, etc....... kinda annoying. ;) might as well do it myself. :)

^hehe.. when Brock an I first got together, I didn't do much cooking, there were no kids, so we ate out alot... so I'm making him pancakes, cept I don't have the instructions... so I dunno how much to mix w/ what! I kept askin him if it was too thick/thin, how hot to have the griddle, how much to pour on it, etc... he got so pissed off he took over! :D ahh.. sometimes it comes in handy!
