WASHINGTON - Airport security screeners are reportedly going to let passengers bring sharp objects on board airplanes again. Today's Washington Post says the Transportation Security Administration plans to announce security changes Friday.
Sources quoted by the paper say the new rules will allow things like scissors in carry-on bags. The reasoning is that such items are no longer regarded as the greatest threat to airline security. Homeland Security Department officials are said to be more concerned about preventing suicide bomb attacks at airports. Officials want screeners to focus more on finding things that can explode rather than things that are sharp.
The Post reports the newly relaxed rules would allow scissors under four inches long tools shorter than seven inches.
TSA spokeswoman says the new initiatives will be positive for both security and customer service.

haha...a couple years ago I flew to Italy and I used this carry on bag that was my friends. It had a lot of pockets so I didn't even realize until I was already in Rome that I had a pair of regular sized pointed scissors in my bag. I don't know how I got away with it, but I thought it was amusing.

Yeah I don't think I agree with this at all. I mean some things like finger nail clippers, sure that was going overboard to begin with. But gee if we let box cutters back on again... well no harm has ever come of that eh? A friend of mine is an attendant and it just worries me that they are going to be more laxed than what they have been. Look for explosives? Sure, please do.. but don't forget what got us here in the first case.. locked cabin doors or not.
fuck that, i mean, if you jump up and try to hi-jack a plane i am on, with a box cutter or some scissors, you're gettin knocked out! if you can't stand up to a person with a box cutter, for the sake of your life, and others, then you shouldn't leave the house....

Yeah Grandma's on planes need to put down the walker and bust out some ninja moves... hehe that'd be sweet.

yes it would, but very rare is it that a passenger plane has just old women on it!
i get your point..they should be packing their scissors too!

This country is a sham.. We are celebrating being able to bring nail clippers on a flight.. They take so much freedom from us, so when they give us a crumb its a big deal.. looks like we got chumped again..

yep. everyone thinks they have so much freedom in this country because they are "just glad it isn't iraq" or "it could be worse". even people in russia are beginning to have more freedom than us. seriously.

exactly my point. we shouldn't be happy for gas being that much money. We should be all happy when it's $1.01 or $0.99 not $2+

but what if you have a bomb in your hat that you light and you are suicidal????
yea... people need to realize that being paranoid of terrorism will not help. if someone wants to blow themselves or anyone else up, they'll do it no matter the level of paranoia or 'protection' in place. some things you just can't protect yourself against. that's life. living in this country is like going camping with a bunch of fags who go sleep in their car when it rains or some shit.

nope...you can search mofo's before they get on a plane. that is how you stop shit from happening, not saying they won't blow up the terminal, just saying, there are some things that need to happen. but i agree, being paranoid isn't going to stop anything.

They let me on to Vegas with a Crochet needle. I was really suprised, yet happy that i had something to do for 3 hours and 26 mins! They also tested my UGGs for some "expolsive material" I thought that was amusing. What can I hide in my shoes that wouldn't send the metal detectors off? Maybe they thought I was a walking bomb or something... Weird.

now, i can def see how this is a pain in the ass, i wish things like that didn't happen. but man, i still say they should run it through x-ray at least. i mean, dont' you have a key for your lock? can't you just open it for them? you do carry your records on with you right?

2 years ago my Missouri drivers license had expired and I did not realize it until I was checking in at the airport to get my boarding pass. The lady said it was no big deal, just that I would be searched at every single point along the way. So I'm thinking no biggie it's my own fault. I get searched at KCI but never again that trip. When I was coming back from South Carolina the lady at the checkin counter did not even say anything about it being expired. I even pointed it out and asked if I was going to get searched on all stops along the way. She said nope.
So one of the two ladies was a dumbass...I'm betting it was the one in South Carolina.

Man, I got harrassed coming back from Italy with a group of fellow college students and professors. We were going through customs and they ask you if anyone gave you anything suspicious or if you have anything to report...blah, blah, blah. Well, I have essential tremors, which is a degenerative neurological disorder that makes my hands shake. Well, its gets worse when I'm tired, stressed, etc, so as you can imagine after 15 days of madness and an 11 hour flight during which I was hungover, I was a bit shakey. The guy kept asking me what was wrong and if I needed to tell him anything, and wanted to know why I was shaking. I explained to him about my disorder, and apparently he didn't believe me. He just kept asking and asking and wouldn't let it go. Finally I was just like "DUDE, I HAVE A NEUROLOGICAL DISODER, LEAVE ME ALONE." I need some kind of bracelet like diabetics have or something for that shit. geesh.

I was flying out of NYC the October right after the Trade Center bombings and I was "randomly selected" to have my luggage and flight case searched. They took out every record of it sleeve then removed it of it's inner sleeve. One by one, and my case was packed tighter than a UHaul coming over the mexican border :P I was running late as it was and had about 20 mins to make my flight. They had to hold the flight for about 1/2 hour so they could inspect each piece of vinyl while saying "Well... you never know what a bomb could look like now-a-day's".
hrm.

you nailed it, man.
Anyone who would give up liberty for security doesn't deserve either.
