Spanking Incident Brings Heat For KC Club
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- What investigators witnessed at a Kansas City club didn't make them happy, and now Balanca's is in danger of losing its liquor license.KMBC's Lara Moritz sat down with the owner of the club, Lori, who described what happened and why it may have seemed inappropriate to investigators, but not to club patrons."No one cares who anybody is, as long as everyone's partying and having a really good time," said Lori, who asked that her last name not be used.Lori has owned Balanca's, located at 1809 Grand Blvd., for five years.
"I would describe it as gay, straight, black, white, rock 'n' roll, swingers, goth kids -- everything under one roof. It's so diverse," Lori said.On one recent night, the party was in full swing when state liquor control investigators stopped by."One of my customers had dropped his pants and bent over to get smacked with a riding crop. (Investigators) came in and deemed that inappropriate," Lori said. Now, the liquor control board wants to revoke Lori's liquor license."I was really surprised when I got the letter from the city stating there's going to be a hearing," Lori said.Lori said that even though the club entertains people from all walks of life, trouble at the club is rare."Everybody gets along. They're all just here for one purpose -- to drink, mingle, make friends, have a good time. What they do when they leave here is their business," Lori said.Lori's primary goal is to make her patrons happy and to uphold the law at the same time."If they consider that lewd and they consider that nudity, then we won't be doing that no more," Lori said. The hearing will be held March 30. Lori hopes the situation can be handled without losing her club's liquor license.

Liquor control just tripled their staff, they are messing w/ everyone. Hard Rock Cafe and some other major chains want to come into downtown and said that if the city sqeezes out the competition, they will pay outrageous amounts of taxes, rent, or whatever they pay the city. Balanca's isnt the only place they are trying to shut down.

So the big bad corporations are afraid of a little small business competition? How pathetic.

Talk to anybody who has a tavern license; selling 50% food & 50% liquor.
Grinders was paid a visit by liquor control and told me that another spot had been visited 3 times in one week.
Talk to anyone who operates a business that holds a liquor license, they will all tell you the same thing.
I work with and talk to a number of different bar owners...

Liquor control just tripled their staff, they are messing w/ everyone. .
Tell me about it. Last Saturday night I got a ticket for not having my liquor card on me, even though as soon as they walked through the door I did not touch one glass that contained alcohol. The guy from liquor patrol asked me if I could go home and get it, because I told him that I had recently started another serving/bartending job and had it in my apron for my other job. The bitch he was with said that was unexceptable and that I should of had it on me (which is right, I should have had it at least in my apron). I told her it would take me 15 minutes round trip to go home and come back, but she wouldn't let me. So, now I have to go to court in April. Hopefully, I will just have to show my card and that will be that.

Besides the name, Hardrock Cafe is just a bar.
Any local promotor would be able to book there on any given night. At least out here, people have shows there. Mainly they are one-off's but whatever, if the night is bangin I bet it could go down in KC. Are you guys GETTING a Hardrock?

In the area where the new arena is going we are suppose to be getting one along with several other things that other cities have that we dont. That whole area is suppose to expand into an entertainment area with bars and restaurants.

and mike, it's NOT a swinger club
Balanca's is only a gay bar if that is all you are willing to see. But if you throw the mind open a little bit, it becomes a whole lot more. Swinger couples mingle peacefully (most of the time) with gays and lesbians. The dance floor is full of wildish and stylish revelers of all kinds. The live music performances keep the basement hopping. Balanca's can even pass for a sports bar, with plenty of TV's trained on pro and college athletics. And the food is worth the trip itself. So the chance of you feeling out of place in a bar this unique has everything to do with you. If you're coming to judge, expect the same. If you're coming to enjoy a lifestyle bar with all the amenities, you can expect a fun crowd that is willing to take you in. But don't always expect a packed house. Like most bars in KC, this joint's attendance can ebb and flow. But when it flows, expect to get caught up in the fun. -- Michael Humphrey

If you google Kansas City, MO swinger clubs Balanca's come up every time. While you may not throw a swinger event... the club is still a swinger club. It has nothing to do with you... but it's a swingers club none the less.
