I don't know if any of you know about this or not, but XO Club is in trouble with the Westport Neiborhodd Association. Last night they had a protest in front of the club and they are ralleying to get the club shut down. I am not allowed to go into the grity details of everything but I can tell you that they do stand a decent chance of getting that done.
"Why Should I Care?" some of oyu are asking now. Well it's simple. XO may not be your favorite place to be on a regular basis, you might not ever come here at all because you hate it. But for may of us this is our one place where we can go every Friday and Saturday to hear decent dj's playing decent music. Ya the music in the main room isn't very good most nights except a little bit on Saturday night, but Wed, Fri, and Sat the music is bad ass back in Oxygen. Dagen, Maxx, sometimes the Deepfix kids, sometimes Roland, sometimes myself, and possibly Steve Thorell here soon makes Oxygen the only truly consistant place to hear good music weekin and weekout for the past 3 years.
The Wesport Neiborhood Association wants to shut down XO Club because they say that we are a nusance to the neiborhood. Last night the protestors carried signs that said "No Sex In My Lawn", "Stop Wakeing My Baby" and various others. The true fact of the matter is that this building has been a nightclub for over 20 years now. Longer then most of the protestors have been living in the neiborhood. They knew we were here when they moved in.....and they knew they were moving into Westport, the entertainment district of KC. Other clubs in the Westport area have been the recent sites of shootings, stabbings, and one person was beaten into a coma last week after a fight started in Mill Creek. XO has been one of the most tame nightclubs in Westport for well over two years now, with no major incidents happening where customers were injured. And weither XO is shut down or not it doesn't matter, these things will still happen to the people who live on this street since we are only one block off of Westport Square.
If they succeed in closing the club down, I will be out of a really good job and so will as many as 40 other people. Not to mention that Kansas City will loose one of it's best sources for underground music. I do not know where you can help if you so wish to. This deal has moved past the city since the city wouldn't shut us down and has moved into a higer court. Like I stated I am not allowed to discuse what that part of the deal is about. But I am sure you can imagine. Besides anything that I don't tell you here you can just get from the news.
Basicly I just wanted to make those of you who didn't know aware of what was going on. If oyu can think of a way to help then please do. Otherwise if you get a chance, come down here when their isn't a party and support if you can. We need it.
