AT&T Quietly Offers $10 Broadband
Michael Hoffman & Gabriel Ikram - June 19, 2007 7:09 AM

First time AT&T customers in 22 states now have the option of unprecedented cheap broadband

AT&T quietly rolled out a $10 per month broadband Internet plan over the weekend, making it the company's cheapest Internet service plan. The new plan is now available across the entire AT&T service range, which spans 22 states. In addition to the low service cost, AT&T is also throwing in a modem for free.

The new $10 offer was launched by AT&T with little enthusiasm and marketing. The plan is barely visible on the AT&T website and is not shown as a plan on AT&T's high speed internet services web page. The only way to access the offer is by clicking "term contact plans" on the Bell South internet services page (http://www.bellsouth.com/consumer/inetsrvcs/inetsrvcs_agreement_plans_pop.html?www.dailytech.c om).

The $10 service includes download speeds up to 768 kilobits per second with upload speeds up to 128 kbps -- which are the same download and upload speeds offered on the company's $19.95 per month plan. The new plan requires a one year contract with Bellsouth / AT&T.

The offers come as a result of the Federal Communications Commission mandate that AT&T must concede low-cost incentives before approval of its BellSouth acquisition. The FCC mandate will force AT&T to keep the low-price offer for at least 2 1/2 years.

In addition, AT&T must offer a DSL plan that does not require customers to have a local phone plan packages. According to AT&T, the company must roll out service with this plan in less than 6 months, or face retributions from the FCC.

*NOTE* New customers can sign up for the $10 broadband connection now but will also have to get home phone service at a minimum of $20/month. As the article states, the $10 braodband service without the home phone service will be available within the next 6 months.

Yes.

If you get it now it will be a minimum of $30 cuz you have to get a home phone line with it.

If you wait at least 6 months you can get it without a home phone line and it is only $10 a month.

I have been told that you can get it now for $10 a month with a 911 only home phone for $5 a month to make it $15 before taxes and other bull shit. But I don't have proof of that yet. I'm still waiting on it.

Ok I actually just now called AT&T to get the real skoop on this.

They will not mention the $10 deal unless you specificly ask for it.

The $5 911 only home phone line is a myth.

For now, in order to get the $10 deal you have to have a home phone line.

To help the $10 deal along they are offering something called a Measured Home Line for $10 a month. It gives you only a certain amount of calls per month (local or long distance), anything over the set limit and you get charged extra.

So basicly you can get into the new DSL rate with a home phone for a minimum of $20 a month before taxes. Or you wait at least 6 months and get DSL for $10 a month before taxes and no home phone line.

The measured home phone line is also something that they will not mention, you have to ask for it. And of course they will try to sell you all kinds of other stuff while they have you on the phone.
