A local group seeking to recall Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser filed an affidavit Monday with the city clerk’s office.

City Clerk Vickie Thompson said that the group — which volunteer organizer Anne McGregor said is called Recall the Funk — would need to gather 16,950 valid signatures to trigger a recall election. That number equals 20 percent of the total number of votes cast in the most recent mayoral election, which was 84,748.

Thompson said she expects to give the group a copy of the petition within two days. The group will have 30 calendar days after receiving the petition to gather signatures and file the petition with the city, Thompson said.

McGregor said the group seeks to recall Funkhouser because “the man just has proven himself to be a completely ineffectual leader at a really critical time when we’re facing economic crisis.”

Kendrick Blackwood, Funkhouser’s chief of staff, said that the mayor has “answered questions about this before.”

“We aren’t worrying too much about it,” Blackwood said. “We don’t believe it will be successful. We’re carrying on with the work of the city.”

Susan Ramirez, another member of the group, said it is “shooting for 20,000 to 22,000 signatures.”

WTF city do you live in Bucho? Ohhh ya, JoCo, WTF would you know about it? Funkhouser has not done a good job. He has cut the wrong things and increased the wrong things, he as been turned into a media clown and so much more. Get him the fuck out office, he sucks.

i don't think he is as bad as he is made out to be, not enough to remove the man from office... he needs to drop the wife thingy though... that is just a distraction and is the main reason why this is probably coming around...

alright dickhead, like i've said before (which you either haven't read or keep choosing to ignore), 80% of my waking hours are spent downtown. i wake up and read the paper every day before class. i'm on top of my current events when it deals with the city. don't you work from home in the northland anyway? who the fuck are you to jump down my throat about it?
the wife issue was fucking stupid and instigated by people who just didn't like her. hell, i don't even know the woman and i don't like her, but dude kept doin his job. secondly, the nonsense with the parks and rec member at the start of his mayorship was asinine at best.

THESE ARE PERIPHERAL ISSUES, NOT IMPORTANT ISSUES, yet that's what everyone keeps latching on to. i've been watching the guy for years (back when he was the city auditor)...i've yet to see anything he's done specifically in regards to legislation that i overwhelmingly disagree with.

and quit baggin on joco...we maintained a pretty serious surplus of tax money over the years so we don't have to worry about our city taxes being raised. not a bad tradeoff.

dick.

Yikes, looks like someone used a wooden dildo from the looks of that vag full o' splinters.

Perhaps the mayor hasn't done anything terribly wrong, but he hasn't done anything right either. Tell me one thing he has accomplished since he's been in office other than making our town look more like a joke than it already was. In times like this, when we are facing so many huge problems, we need someone who is going to get things done. The man may be a great auditor, but all that says about the man is that he's a good accountant. Good accountants don't necessarily make good politicians. And I don't think that the city's woes lie only on his shoulders. I think the city manager needs to go and the city council needs about two thirds of its members replaced. The council is using the mayor as a sort of human shield right now. It's easy to pin all the cities troubles on him right now, but if you push him aside, you'll see a group of people sitting around getting nothing done for the people of our city. Most of them where around to help usher in the problems we face right now. The fact of the matter is that we need people in office that can work together. There is nobody sitting in city hall right now that is capable of such a task. It's like every man for himself at this point.

i personally don't see any valid reason to recall the guy. if he had been taking bribe money or something along those lines, i could understand it, but he's just a crappy politician with pr issues and a shitty city council.

Ohhh so now im a dick?

I asked you WTF? But I didn't resort to calling you names and I still won't.

So what if I work from home? My home that I own is in KCMO. My business is legal and registered in KCMO. My other job as a part time technology teacher is also in KCMO. And when I am not working from home, teaching, or sleeping, I am driving all over KCMO servicing my customers who for the most part live in KCMO. I charge my customers KCMO sales tax, I pay KCMO property and income tax, and I vote in a KCMO district. So please just drop that argument.

Not only has Funkhouser made a mockery out of our already hurting city, but he has done well to cut funding in places where our city really needs it. First day in office he sliced all kinds of TIF funding for run down areas of the city that seriously needed the economic boost. Every major project he has fought against has brought the city huge tax dollars. While I praise his decision to not side with the city council on the most recent budget, i really feel as though a veto was required. However since his political future is already for the most part thrashed he just couldn't grow the balls to do the do.

Now you, while you may spend some time in KCMO, you don't vote here, and you don't pay taxes here, or if you do, you don't pay much. It's easy for you JoCo peeps to sit back and throw your punches when it comes to our government, but as soon as we ask for some help with the stadiums, light rail, or for some soccer fields, you shut the door and say your to good for that. The fact of the matter is, KCMO carries the weight of this region and we need somebody in charge that will really get things done right and not make us look bad in the process. You can say Funkhouser is ok, but until you have to live with his do nothing policy's and horrible funding cuts, then you really don't have a leg to stand on.

1.) there are plenty of people in YOUR part of kansas city who think the way i do as well. it's not just a joco thing, so don't generalize.

2.) fuck the stadiums and the soccer fields. if the stadiums need renovations, why not tap the multi-million dollar athletes to help out?

3.) i've consistently said i'm FOR light rail. have been since the start.

4.) for the last 4 years, i paid taxes to kcmo for my job at camel. i pay kcmo taxes at the university i attend, buy food at the kcmo restaurants i eat at between classes, and i'm taxed every time i buy gas, smokes, or anything else, that tax money goes back to the city.

how many legs do you want me to try standing on before my opinion actually matters, boss?

You also have to remember that he's one of the first candidates in YEARS that wasn't backed by whatever rich civic organization that I've forgotten the name of typically gets the mayor and council members elected. I'd say that should be a major selling point behind so many of these so-called iconoclasts that want him impeached.

So, the dude is old, whipped, and screwed up on a couple of ignorant interpersonal things. He's not as bad as the MEDIA implies (note how important this word is for many of you. suddenly you're trusting what the local MEDIA says is a good or a bad thing).

I'm just saying, think a second about who else shares your "opinion".

What I don't understand is that prior funkhouseer days were full of crupt politicians... thats a fact the archives at the KansasCity Star can prove... So far the worst thing this guys done is try to stick up for his damn wife, and cut back on city spending because this city's seeing a fucking budget crisis like none other, actually try to make this cities infrastructure ready for the 22nd century... I mean seriously what have you all have to really bitch about on this guy??

And I mean not just you opinions cite some real fuckin shit that this mayor has done wrong…

You’ll have a hard time finding anything close to previous mayors…

TIF's.... before Funkyhouser came in, Kansas City already over extended and gave out way too much $$ in TIFs... hows that Funkys Fault for putting the foot down eh?

This whole idea here goes against the political system as we knowit...

You can't impeach a guy for not doing a great job, hell you can't even impeach a guy for doing a bad job... its gotta be really bad...
