A new plan, already enacted in Flint MI is to bulldoze abandoned areas of cities where urban sprawl once reigned king. The plan has obviously been met with some criticism, but in the face of a city wide bankruptcy, it looks like the only viable option for some.

Mr Kildee has now been approached by the US government and a group of charities who want him to apply what he has learnt to the rest of the country.

seriously? i mean, i know we purposely twist words up here, but it's a forum, not an internet publication.

apprently it's the "internet publication of the year"

meh

anyway.....this seems like it's going to cost just as much as it would to funnel the money into a more viable solution....

some areas need to be cleared. these kinds of areas are remnants of past boom times and need to be rebuilt. but to do this in the name of bankruptcy would indicate that it would be re-zoned for ind. or com. use. and we all know that not many of the big u.s. companys are expanding right now...

bulldozing and/or rezoning would definitely make it more available.

...but bulldozing also alleviates some upkeep (patrolling, etc), liability, & eyesore factors

right, it just seems they are going to drop a ton of money to meet these budgetary needs, but i guess you gotta spend money to make/stabalize money...

I don't see how paying some illegals to run bulldozers and dump trucks is going to cost nearly as much as trying to upkeep the abandoned areas over long periods of time.
