Yea, I said it...

and the criteria could consist of:

1. Mixing/Technical Ability behind your tables (did you notice that record going off beat and fix it before we could even tell? or did ya let it wreck!?)

if you can scratch, cool, but keep in mind you will be rated negatively if your scratching doesn't flow

2. Track Selection/Progression in your mix....does it flow? are your tracks going somewhere or did you just mix your 13 newest rekkids together...

3. Originality...does your mix sound like "just another boring GU", or is it fresh, and thought-provoking. were you daring and mixed some trip hop with your drum and bass? Did you play prog house for an hour and every track sounded alike? make your mix STAND OUT TO US!

it doesn't matter if you don't have "the newest shit"...just so long as its quality shit... the plan is to make the judges consist of the forum moderaters, the members will also vote....but to maintain fairness, there should be somekind of prevention of favoritism(I can tell you right now that even if I submitted a kickass mix, it'd get hated on, and you know I'm not kidding)

You can use cd decks, final scratch, shit use your old belt driven gemini's for all i care, just produce a quality mix that was NOT made in acid or protools (yes, i will be able to tell)...

so...we can't POSSIBLY host this many mixes, for the first round, you need to get your mix HOSTED, which would be the easiest thing to do, OR get a copy (mp3, cd, whatever) to each of the music judges...Include also a Bio of yourself, a pic if possible, and whatever else you want the rest of the world to see in the contest thread if you want to be in the contest...you can post your info now if you want, just have it in this format so we can separate you from randomers posting in the thread:

DJ NAME:
STYLES YOU PLAY:
HOW LONG YOU'VE BEEN MIXING:
LOCATION:
BIO: (hey, go as long as you want with this....make yourself look good, EVERYONE needs to have a quality bio)
pic if ya got one!
add whatever else you deem necessary to us knowing more about you and your music!

If nothing else, I want the point of this contest to be that you get very good constructive criticism from all the music fans on the board, get some more fans of your style/mix, and get a little exposure; maybe see what I can do if you win in terms of a gig or something cool--like rekkidz, or apparel.

basically you will stand out as the most talented dj for the half year, i think a contest like this can be done once every 6 months and you can reign king for a while...and you can re-enter if we do this again, this would be the trial contest...

open to ALL genres of electronica music...closing date for mixes, probably something like 15 days...that should give you enough time to get a mix together (if you haven't already...I mean, it HAS been 5 minutes now ;))

if you are chosen as top 3, you will have to make another mix...and provide it within a short amount of time...because this will weed out someone who perhaps took a long time programming, mixing, and remixing their cd...

the mix length should be between 60 minutes to 80 minutes(enough for 1 CD with overburning)

And I'll personally have 500 copies of the winning mix made for the winner to promote themselves(it would be nice if I'd win ;))

and to ensure fairness: judges MUST explain their votes and provide SOME critisism for the mixes entered(I don't expect TOO many... but in case there are--I have time to listen to them all)

For the finals, I will post the top 3 mixes on my own dedicated server for hosting--along with your bio, pics, and booking info...

Got a friend who is a badass bedroom DJ? Well, tell Derrick Carter to get out of his fuckin underwear and show us what he/she has got ;)

to make this totally unbiased, we can always just designate the mix by a number so nobody knows who mixed it. then reveal the winner\'s name when all is said and done.

totally.

and in addition, I think that there should also be preference given to those who are mixing 30-40 tracks in 60 minutes... instead of... ya know... 10-12 :D

eheh, j/k

I can\'t wait to hear some more ideas on this. I wanna get my music out, and this seems like a REALLY good way to do so... and with your suggestion, people might actually give me props without knowing it :D

I\'d really LOVE to be impressed with these mixes. I NEEEEEEED new music to listen to!

and I don\'t recall if I said this... but the mixes should be NEW and exclusive to this contest... and there should be little to not any time at all to mix down the second round of mixes... they should be DEMONSTRATIONS OF WHAT YOU WOULD DO IN *1* SHOT...

show us what we\'re getting if we book you for a LIVE performance... not what your computer can do for you. MINE can do it too. I won\'t be impressed.

I seriously want some mixes that refuse to leave my CD player. And I will MOST DEFINATELY try for the same!

While on the topic... I\'m thinkin that we also need to house a production contest with basically the same rules... but potentially with producers being able to have their track signed or some such... I know that SOMEONE here has such powers(stares directly at Rob Lee) :P

Production! Who the hell is working on that shiat anyway? I\'m sure anyone that can DJ can make a track. I know I\'d rather make trax than mix everyone else\'s. It makes you a MUSICIAN and not just a DJ. People that do live PA are MUSICIANS and I love it! Don\'t get me wrong, DJing (that a word?) is hard work and takes patience and practice...always appreciated.
Even people that don\'t like electronic music appreciate production and live PA.

P.S. Keep an eye out for a cd of my original trax in December. I\'ve got ssoooooooooo many live samples from obvious and hidden recordings ;) . People saying crazy shit and normal shit taken out of context! A guaranteed laugh if nothing else :D

not true... most DJ\'s can\'t do ANYTHING special.

however, I am a turntablist... I use the turntables as not only an instrument, but as a weapon...

I also produce tracks... and being a pompous asshole is nothing special or unique... so, in your case, I am not impressed. I personally have been producing for QUITE some time... I have SEVERAL tracks that have been signed... not to mention, most of the shit I do is live remixing and cutting of rekkidz(90% of which are my OWN dubs)

yea... and, in case you didn\'t know... about 50% oif syde-sho produces... Tell Tim I said whats up, though :D

TheMisfitToy here:

I'm sorry, did I say something rude? Try to reread that one for me .

Yeah, I'll get more excited about a cd of original tracks than a mixed cd. <- That includes orig. tracks in a mixed set. Happy to hear about your music. I guess you don't need a competition for producers to get a record deal, huh?
Obvioulsy you have a problem with other people trying to get their tracks on the tables
I DJ too, and I write tracks. Yeah, I'm new at it, cause no one knows I've been doing it. Didn't mean to tread on your turf
I guess you're right: I shouldn't glorify musicians.

And Tim doesn't even know who you are. Name please?
